The Joint Commission Accreditation

St. Francis - Emory Healthcare is accredited by The Joint Commission. As the nation's oldest and largest health care accrediting body, The Joint Commission awards accreditation after a team of surveyors meet with personnel, patients and visitors; observe the delivery of care; and review systems and processes to assess the organization's compliance with standards.

As an independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission's mission is “to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public,” which coincides with St. Francis's mission of "Making Communities Healthier."


The Joint Commission Disease-Specific Care Certifications

Disease-specific care certification, through The Joint Commission, improves the quality of patient care by reducing variations in clinical processes. The Joint Commission’s emphasis on clinical practice guidelines help organizations establishes a consistent approach to care, reducing the risk of error. It provides a framework for program structure and management, helps to maintain a consistently high level of quality, and demonstrates our commitment to healthcare quality for our community.

St. Francis has disease-specific certifications for the following programs:

  • Advanced Primary Stroke care
  • Total Hip Replacement care
  • Total Knee Replacement care
  • Advanced Perinatal Care Certification (first in the state of Georgia)

Rated 'Top Large Hospital in Georgia' by Georgia Trend

St. Francis-Emory Healthcare was recently ranked among the state’s top large hospitals by Georgia Trend, a monthly publication covering business, politics, and economic development in the state. The magazine rated St. Francis-Emory seventh among the 26 large hospitals (those with 250 patient beds or more) that made its 2024 Top Hospitals listing.


Named a 'High-Performing Hospital' by U.S. News & World Report

St. Francis-Emory Healthcare has been named by U.S. News & World Report to its 2024-2025 Best Hospitals as a High Performing hospital for Congestive Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Heart Attack, Kidney Failure, Pneumonia, and Stroke. This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings.


Verified for Maternal Levels of Care by The Joint Commission

Maternal Level of Care (MLC) verification, a program developed by The Joint Commission in partnership with ACOG, is a way for hospitals to verify their capabilities in providing obstetric care. It helps ensure that hospitals have the necessary resources, equipment, and expertise to handle the range of maternal care needs, from basic to specialized, and supports safe, successful births.
